Microsoft adds content filtering to Xbox Live messaging

3.4
Microsoft today announced new text filtering features for Xbox Live messages, and it's exactly what it sounds like. The idea is to give you more control over the messages you receive, allowing you to block ones that you consider to be harmful.

There are four levels of filtration: Friendly, Medium, Mature, and Unfiltered. Obviously, Friendly is the most heavily filtered, and that will be the default for child accounts. Parents will be able to set their kids' accounts to whatever filtration level they want though.

You can also customize it in different categories of messages. For example, you can have an Unfiltered setting for all messages, but you can set messages from people that aren't in your friends list to Friendly. You can also set different levels for images and videos that you receive.

If you receive a message that gets blocked based on your setting, you'll get a message that says, "Potentially offensive message hidden". Then, you can click on that message to learn more about the settings, and there will be a shortcut to change your settings.

On your Xbox One, you'll be able to change these settings by going to Settings -> General -> Online safety & family -> Message safety, and the settings will sync across all of your Xbox Live devices, such as the console, Windows 10, and the mobile apps. It will be available for Xbox Insiders today.

I was wondering why they were popping up as potentially offensive, I got to fix that so I can laugh at the hate mail I receive!
