Matt Booty, who’s the head of Xbox Game Studios, recently spoke to MCV about the same and said that upcoming titles will be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. “As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices.
“We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.” In the case of, say, Halo Infinite, it means that Xbox One users will likely receive the same amount of post-launch content as Series X players.
It makes sense, especially considering that the first year or two of a new console cycle features a cross-gen titles. When the Xbox One and PS4 first launched, games like Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Call of Duty: Ghosts were available for PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. The appeal of next-gen consoles from the outset then will be better overall performance and shorter loading times.
The Xbox Series X is out in holiday 2020. Sony’s PlayStation 5 launches in the same period and we recently got a look at its official logo.
