Now, CD Projekt Red has announced today that The Witcher franchise as a whole has now surpassed 50 million copies sold all together. This total is seemingly made up of the three mainline entries in the series that follow Geralt of Rivia with The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassin’ of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While this number might not seem too massive compared to some other franchises, for CD Projekt Red to have started out as a relatively unknown studio when the first game launched and now reach this total, that’s pretty darn impressive.
Over 50 million adventurers joined Geralt on his journey from Kaer Morhen to Vizima, through Flotsam and Vergen, Velen and Novigrad to Skellige Isles and Toussaint, and many, many more places, time and time again…

Of the 50 million copies, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sold over half of this total. Earlier this year, we learned that the third game in the series had topped 28 million copies sold. In fact, 2019 proved to be the second-strongest year for the game in terms of sales following only behind 2015, which was the first year that the game released. Much of this was due in part to Wild Hunt coming to the Nintendo Switch along with the renewed interest in the franchise that came about after Netflix’s The Witcher TV series debuted.
Even though CD Projekt Red is next setting course for the dystopian future with Cyberpunk 2077, you would imagine that these lifetime sales numbers will see the developer returning to The Witcher series at some point down the road.
