Developer Comments on Xbox 720, Utilizing 360 Hardware
Turn 10′s Dan Greenawalt, the developer of the soon-to-be-released Forza 4, told Eurogamer when asked whether their upcoming racer is the last title in the franchise to see a release on the Xbox 360:
There’s no reason it has to be. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. A lot of how we get our improvements, such as the graphics, was not with more hardware. It’s actually through a knowledge of the hardware. It’s actually easier to be on a platform after it’s been several years out, because we can borrow from Epic, Rare, Lionhead, 343, and we give back to them.
Plus, we borrow from the rest of the industry: SIGRAPH, DICE, GDC. A lot of people think, what about the rivalry with this company? It’s like, we all work in game development. Marketing teams rival. PR teams rival. Platforms rival. We’re game developers, and we want to deliver a vision, so we’re not really looking at the rivalry.
When asked if more RAM would help (referring to the possibility of releasing a future Forza title on the Xbox 720):
Hardware can always help, but only after you’ve had some time to trick the hardware. The reason we’re able to do what we do is not by using the hardware the way it was supposed to be used. That’s what happens on every version. Every game that looks great, the way it does it is by getting the hardware, learning every nook and cranny of it and tricking it into doing things more efficiently.
It’s like packing up a moving van. When you unpack a van and you put it on your pavement and repack it, you get more space. Well also it’s about knowing every nook and cranny of that van, so you’re putting things in the glove box, and you’re putting things where you were never supposed to store them. You’ve tricked it into doing more.
The developer then commented on new hardware (the Xbox 720 in this case) and the ways which more RAM is effective to a certain extent:
When you get new hardware, it’s actually really hard to trick it because you need a couple of years to develop that. It’s nice to have other developers like Epic, who are like, hey, we’ve found a spot, if you rip the door panel open you can shove some stuff underneath the window. The window doesn’t work any more but that’s OK, you’ve got more room in here.
There are a lot of PCs that are really powerful now and yet a lot of the games don’t look much better because it’s an unstable platform. You have to make it for the lowest common denominator. So, would more power and more RAM help? Always. But it wouldn’t help immediately. And there’s still plenty of things we can do on this hardware because it’s not always the hardware that delivers the experience. Auto Vista, the new IBL, new physics engine, new AI… there’s a lot of new innovation we have in this game. And this is our third version on this box. So innovation is a lot more than hardware.

there is an old programmers saying,
"i spent 3 hours looking at my own code saying, 'what the hell was this guy thinking!'"
fact!, you always learn to optimize, when you are coding, roughly the same thing, for 4 years! it only gets better!

xkilo23xThornygull Lol at some of you noobs. The 360 hardware is outdated and it sucks. Also, this Dan Greenwalt dude, he is retarded. PC is not a unstable platform. It is the most stable of all, if you think it isn't, you've obviously never had a gaming PC.
Well it's cheaper than have to buy a knew P.C. every three years because you need a certain O.S, a certain amount of gigahertz on you processor, certain amount of RAM, etc etc. You get my point, if you don't have just one of those minimum requirements then the game won't run as well as you would want it to (especially if you don't have the right graphics card). You have to buy a new one but at least new parts to replace the old one and some of them are more expensive then consoles. Also processors are soldered into the computer so if you don't have the minimum amount of gigahertz then you have to buy a new computer.
Please dont comment when you obviously know nothing about computers. Starting off, if you have the latest version of windows games will be supported on it for around 5-7 years depending on who makes them. Secondly, RAM is dirt cheap, 4gb for around 20-30 dollars. Next here comes the issue of the processor, they will ALWAYS be updating software and hardware, so ANYTHING you buy will become obsolete sooner or later, anyway. For the processor, get the top of the line, dont have to upgrade for around 7-8 years. For Xbox's and PS3's they break, so naturally you will spend around 200-300 dollars getting it fixed or getting a new one. Also, i dont know what kind of computer your using but none of the 3 computers in my house hold have a soldered in processor, why would NewEgg sell processors if you just have to buy a whole new computer for it to run. Also, last thing, if you have an old processor, and its "soldered" in, all you would have to do is buy a new motherboard, not a whole computer...

Contrary to what console kids believe, PC isn't some ripoff platform. It sure is if you buy a retail machine, that's why you build your own. You can build a budget rig for under $500 that will play all your games on better settings than on console and at better framerates.
And screw paying for other shit, you get free online, torrent games, mods, dedicated servers, crazy weekend sales, more free DLC
MS knows it can't keep its console line going much longer, 10 years ago I would've agreed with you PC sucked, but since a bunch of different companies now compete on PC for your money (Steam, Games for Windows, EA's new network) you end up saving and you don't have to be a slave to MS. They are milking the 360, PC gaming grows more each year.
And also LOL at the dude below who thinks CPUs in PCs are soldered to the motherboard

There is no need for a xbox720 ATM, as stated in the comments the developer mentioned that many computers already have more hardware than needed. Until there is a need to utilize the extra hardware this should just be a dream for xbox

TTG-AdrianlolDsR-FuSii0nZPlaystation We need Xbox 720.
So 360 prices will DROP.
My console is banned.
So everytime I get banned or my 360 breaks just go to gamestop and buy an new 360 for $100 bucks.
We DON'T NEED Xbox 720 , because it's still powerfull and great! It's not our freakin problem that you get banned everytime. That's the fact you hack and mod too much. It's not the fault of the console or Xbox LIVE , But it's YOUR OWN **** FAULT. Nuff said.
Nuff Said Indeed.
