Video Shows the New Xbox Dashboard UI in Action

4.2
A video surfaced on Twitter that shows the new Xbox dashboard in action. This is due to some players receiving early updates for the upcoming Xbox user interface, which is displayed in a video that reveals what players can expect upon its official launch.

The new Xbox UI is currently being rolled out to select players as part of its alpha testing, and those players have shared what the upcoming model looks like. Xbox is making big changes to the UI design with the purpose of streamlining the Xbox experience, providing more personalization options for players. The early feedback from the community will ensure that Xbox fine-tunes the UI experience before it rolls out to the public in 2023.

The new Xbox UI had appeared online, but thanks to Twitter user Gabor-117 a video of the user interface now reveals much more. The video gives players a look at what to expect and the direction that Xbox has gone in creating this new design. At the top of the interface is the “jump back in” section with tiles that show recently played games and apps. Scrolling down reveals a section of the most popular games on Game Pass, followed by recently added to Game Pass. The proceeding sections highlight specific genres for games and broad categories, such as “nostalgia” to showcase specific games that players might want to play on Game Pass. Additionally, there is even an EA Play section of games available on Game Pass, a Cloud Gaming section, a cross-platform section, and a section for optimized Series X games, etc. Xbox’s intent seems to integrate Game Pass into the UI experience, rather than it previously being an option as something else that players could dive into from the UI.

This update brings Game Pass to players in a more direct way than what was accessible before. Sections in Game Pass are now visible in the UI, so players can see what is available in the subscription service without choosing to go into the application, which might make it easier for players to be aware of the games being removed from Game Pass. Reducing barriers to Game Pass through the design of the UI could mean that more players will subscribe to the streaming model.

While some players praise the new UI for introducing games that they otherwise would not have known about, others find it off-putting as it comes across as one big advertisement. Even so, opposed to Netflix, Game Pass is consumer friendly with sharing options available. Whether players are overwhelmed by these options, or bask in the excitement of so many games conveniently at their fingertips is dictated on if those players subscribe to Game Pass, although Xbox is betting on the latter.
