“There’s still a lot of stuff that’s actually going to be added to that first act,” said Vincke when speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun. The downside is that players will likely have to reinstall and can’t carry save data into the 1.0 release.
“It’s really annoying, I know, for players, but we just can’t maintain save game compatibility when we make structural changes like that.” So if you’re looking for an experience without interruptions, Vincke says you should wait until the full release. And no, there won’t be any more progress wipes.
“Post-release we guarantee that you’ll be able to continue. I always have to make sure that I can’t guarantee it – I can say that we’ll do our utter best. There may always be technical difficulties that make it impossible… But in general, post-release, you should never have to reload or restart it again.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for PC via Steam Early Access. In addition to a release month, Larian confirmed that Matt Mercer would voice fan-favorite character Minsc. Stay tuned for more details on the game’s progress in the coming months.
