Final Fantasy 16 Dev Hypes Power of PS5

4.3
Recently, the developers for Final Fantasy 16 stated that the latest trailer was made in real-time via the PS5, and hyped up how powerful the console can be for the game. The news came during a recent broadcast for another game, as Final Fantasy 16 is just seven months away from release.

Following the 2022 edition of The Game Awards, it was confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 would be the first M-rated game in the mainline Final Fantasy series. With references to drug use, sexual themes, blood and gore, and violent depictions of medieval warfare, the game's rating was a necessity in order to tell the story that the developers want. With a background in emotional storytelling, the developers of Final Fantasy 16 have had plenty of expectations placed on them.

During a segment of Letter from the Producer Live Part 75, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida, in his capacity as producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, showed the Final Fantasy 16 Revenge trailer towards the conclusion of the broadcast. Yoshida himself presented the trailer in person at The Game Awards earlier this month. During the Live Letter, which originally focused on the release of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.3, Yoshida said that the Final Fantasy 16 Revenge trailer was made with real-time rendering and no load times. Yoshida then exclaimed, "It’s become a game that is like, ‘Look at the power of the PS5!’"

Yoshida then stated that players will be able to turn the camera around during cutscenes, and encouraged players to give it a try once Final Fantasy 16 is released. In the Final Fantasy 16 Revenge trailer, the game showed the violent death of a chocobo to start things off, while simultaneously confirming the role that protagonist Clive Rosfield will play as the Dominant of the fiery Eikon Ifrit. As the nations of Valisthea waged war with one another, Clive and his companions Jill, Cid, and the wolf-like Torgal were shown fending off an ambush by monsters. The trailer also confirmed that, at least in Final Fantasy 16, Clive can pet Torgal in a brief moment of levity. With Clive and his younger brother Joshua both serving as Dominants for two different fire-aligned Eikons in Ifrit and Phoenix respectively, players will have to wait and see how their stories will go.

As far as how sales of the game could play out, it remains to be seen if Final Fantasy 16 will be harmed by its PS5 exclusivity window of six months. While no PC port has been confirmed at the time of writing, whether the game goes to PC in 2024 or later is open to interpretation.

Final Fantasy 16 will be released on June 22, 2023 for PS5.

I hate it when devs etc hype games and/or consoles,
and when they're released, they're less than expected
