The new bit of info comes from notable industry insider Jeff Grubb. He first stated a few days ago on his YouTube channel that he's "heard rumors" of a Switch 2 announcement in late 2023, and there is a "45% chance" that it could release in 2023 as well. He was, however, very emphatic in clarifying that this was just a rumor, that he was not confirming this to be true, and that he was not sure himself.
Then, earlier today, Grubb went on a Kinda Funny Games livestream where he relayed (around minute 18) some more details regarding these 'Switch 2' rumors, all while maintaining his stance that he's still not certain about anything.
He first explained that it's possible that this upcoming model will not necessarily be as big a jump as a Switch 2, but stronger than what one would consider a 'Switch Pro'. He said the hardware may "straddle the line" between the two, but that it would "[continue] the generation" of the Switch. He did state, however, that he saw things "lining up again to have something happen sooner rather than later, by the end of this year."
Grubb explained that he heard "we may get [an announcement] this later this year" but was unable to confirm it via his own sources. This would match the claim from the 4chan leaker, who said that the new Switch model would launch with the second wave of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC, which is set to release in Winter 2023.
A new Nintendo console getting announced, much less released, in 2023, would come as quite a shock for many analysts and commentators. The Switch launched six years ago today, and though a six-and-a-half-year lifespan is not abnormal for a console, a lot of people expect that its continued success will make Nintendo want to keep it afloat for a while longer. As Grubb himself stated, none of these rumors are confirmed, so that still might be the case.
