Minecraft Players Make Giant Map Spanning Their Entire World

4.3
Exploring a world in Minecraft is a core mechanic within the game's survival mode, but some players take their voyages to another level by documenting their entire explored server on one massive map. Many of Minecraft's most recent major content updates have introduced several new biomes for players to seek out and explore, and keeping track of expeditions via maps can be a helpful way of discovering these new environments.

Maps have been a useful item within Minecraft for much of the game's lifetime, allowing players to record the world around them as they explore it. They can be extremely helpful forms of navigation for players who often find themselves lost in their worlds, while also allowing for the possibility of creating large-scale map rooms by mounting completed maps on walls. It's not uncommon to see these kinds of map rooms in multiplayer servers as players' bases can be located on maps as well, leading to some fans using them to create miniaturized diorama-like replicas of their own worlds.

One group of players demonstrate that the possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to creating map rooms, however. A player known as DevianTFR on Reddit shared their server's map exhibit via a post on the site, showing off a gigantic map of their multiplayer world which is made up of a total of 120 combined maps. The map features a top-down look of their surrounding world which includes several different biomes, along with a mix of player-made and naturally-occurring Minecraft structures such as villages.

The upcoming Trails and Tales update for Minecraft seems like it will put an even greater emphasis on map usage due to much of its content being related to world exploration and discovery. The long-awaited 1.20 update has promised to introduce a plethora of new content including the new cherry blossom biome, a new mob known as the Sniffer, an archeology feature which will allow players to dig up ancient treasure in desert biomes, and much more.

While the upcoming 1.20 update has yet to receive an official release date, fans have gradually learned more about what the update will bring as Mojang has revealed its features over the past few months. Complications during the development processes of previous updates had led to the developers being forced to scrap certain features even after they were officially revealed, which had led to widespread disappointment among fans. It seems that Mojang has altered its approach to revealing new features until they're safely embedded in code, or at least until the concepts are finalized. Players can try out some of the upcoming features right now in the latest snapshot version for Minecraft ahead of the update's official release.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy consoles.
