The results are particularly impressive when compared to PlayStation’s peers: the Nintendo Switch – now admittedly in its twilight years – is down eight per cent year-over-year, while the Xbox Series X|S is down 19 per cent compared to 2022. Despite these positive results for Sony, the system slipped 23 per cent month-on-month in May 2023, and actually posted a lower number than during the same period last year.
In fact, powered by the record-breaking release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Nintendo Switch actually ended PS5’s four-month run at the top of the UK hardware charts, with sales of the hybrid hardware increasing 28 per cent year-over-year. Of course, this slight lull for the PS5 is likely to be reversed soon, as there are rumours of a hardware refresh arriving in September.
