Baldur's Gate 3 Players Want A Party Select Screen

4.3
In Baldur's Gate 3, if you want to change your party, you have to individually dismiss and recruit members at your camp. This means wandering around and sifting through dialogue to say "Go away" or "Come with me". It's not the most intuitive system, especially as their inventories don't transfer automatically, and has left a lot of people sticking with their original squad rather than faffing about. This is exactly why fans want Baldur's Gate 3 to adopt a party select screen.

In other RPGs like Mass Effect, you select your squad after leaving the hub. For Baldur's Gate 3, this would mean entering a new screen when selecting 'Leave Camp' that would ask which of your companions you want to bring with you. This would allow you to easily rotate party members in and out depending on the quests you're doing and the areas you're visiting. You might need Astarion in Act 3 when you visit his vampire lord, or you might need Lae'zel for meeting the Creche.

On the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit, Madgt123 put together a mock-up party select screen in which you can pick who to bring out of your current roster of allies, with a "remove all" option so you can easily start over. This garnered over 1,000 upvotes in just a day, with many in the community jumping to agree that it's a feature desperately in need of adding to make the party experience more intuitive and user-friendly.

"I'm always reluctant to switch party members because they act hurt, a party select menu would make me feel a lot better about it," PunksPrettyMuchDead commented.

"Better party and inventory (and party inventory) management would be the single biggest quality of life improvement Larian could patch into Baldur's Gate 3," SaoMagnifico said.

"Yeah, I honestly don't want to go through several conversations to distribute gear to NPCs and being able to dismiss other player characters when they are not in the party would also be great," R0tmaster said.

It's not just a party select screen that Baldur's Gate 3 fans are asking for, either. Fans also want an option to expand their party size beyond four like in actual Dungeons & Dragons games. Right now, the only way to do that is via mods, and it's no doubt a problem of balancing the game--having eight people wail on a boss does make it easier.

Regardless, people are asking for it, whether the trade-off is tougher fights, less XP, or whatever other balancing options are required.
