Created by TeamKill Media, a small studio run by four brothers—Micah, Noah, Josiah, and D’artagnan Jones—Quantum Error was first announced in early 2020 and is creeping towards its November release on PlayStation 5. Two of those brothers, Micah and Noah, sat down Sunday with Will | Resident Evil Central to answer fan questions, during which they both brought up the game's length.
"So if you’re playing a standard run, maybe do a few extra things here and there, you will probably spend about 14 hours-ish, depending on how much you do. If you do a 100% run, you’re probably going to spend somewhere around 20 hours,” Noah said during the stream. The comment can be found in the video below around the 13-minute mark.
A lot of the content aside from the main story will be centered around collectibles, which includes rescuing optional NPCs, although Micah noted they're not all simple collection quests. "Most of [the NPCs] are optional," he said. "They’re, like, off to the side, within the areas of the game … it kind of sidetracks you a little bit. You spend upwards of maybe upwards of 20 minutes for one of them, so it’s a decent event trying to save some of them.”

Aside from the main quest and side content, the team has also been trying to come up with challenges to keep the players interested. Noah laughed as he mentioned a challenge that would require to play through the game using only the fire axe, but Micah explained that's not technically possible. “The game cannot be beaten by just using the axe, because there … are boss fights that require other things," he explained. "So if anybody does that, then the boss fights will have to break that rule.”
The development team announced a few days ago that Quantum Error will be launching on PlayStation 5 on November 3. A version for Xbox Series X|S had previously been announced and is still in development, and Micah noted that the team has recently made the decision to release the game on PC as well, stating that programming for PC follows a lot of the same procedures as programming for PlayStation 5. Those two versions of the game are still expected to come later than the PlayStation 5 release date. He also noted that PC users "will probably need a beefy system to play it. It’s gonna be a raytrace fest, because I’ve already tested it a little bit, and everything is so reflective, it’s ridiculous.”
Outside of contracting with voice actors, the four-brother team has done all the work on Quantum Error themselves, along with financial backing through a grant from Epic Games. Micah, who has done all the programming, noted that while TeamKill Media is an independent studio working with an indie game budget, the brothers have been dedicated to giving it the feel of a AAA action horror title. He noted that then game's visuals are leaps and bounds ahead of what they were when the game was announced more than three years ago, and even the images and videos released recently are a few months out of date, so he's excited for people to see the finished product.
