Windows Store versions of games to “improve,” says Spencer

4.4
The versions of games found on the Windows Store have some strange limitations not found on Steam or other storefronts.

With the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider, PC players started to become aware of certain limitations the Windows Store has on games purchased from it.

As detailed on HowtoGeek, games downloaded from the store have locked exe files. This makes it so you can’t mod the game in any way, or add it to Steam to use the overlay and Steam Controller.

Issues include always-on V-Sync, as well as lack of SLI support. All of these prompted a fan to ask head of Xbox Phil Spencer on Twitter if the company is planning to change anything about the way games work on the platform. Spencer’s answer was a bit general, but hopefully more is being done behind the scenes.

Quantum Break, which releases in April, is the next big Windows Store release. The fact that it’s not coming to Steam, means more PC players are bound to run into the same issues Rise of the Tomb Raider owners had to deal with.

Windows Store is horrible. Hate it.

They need to sort a few things out.

They need to improve things quickly!

Well I would hope they would improve instead of going downhill.

Hopefully once it's sorted things like this wont happen again, it really is something they need to address in the future

I really do hope things improve to be honest.

It is about time microsoft pushed hard on the pc system! Hopefully it works out.

I might be off..But are they just trying to create their own version of Steam? Even Microsoft should know that they won't have very much luck with that, unless they sell some games exclusively on their client.

However, it's good to see they are trying to make things better. I myself am quite excited for Cross-Buy/Console thing, if it works out the way it's suppose to.

Hopefully they improve them.
