During an acceptance speech at the Japan Media Arts Festival this past weekend, Shigeru Miyamoto casually referred to unannounced Nintendo hardware and at least one new Wii project he's working on, which uses the MotionPlus peripheral. Of course, since Miyamoto wasn't making any formal announcements, that's all he said on those fronts, according to Andriasang's summary of a 4Gamer ...read more |

There's no question: retail has a serious lack of Wiis, once again. Yes, this is 2010, but you wouldn't be wrong in thinking it feels more like 2008. Following up on several tips over the past month about online and retail Wii "shortages," the best we can discover is that supply is still coming in to retailers, but that demand is exceeding it -- it's that same old Wii song we've heard for years. ...read more |
We were filled with a mix of two emotions upon seeing that House of the Dead: Overkill is now $12.99 on Amazon. The first emotion was, of course, joy, because now more people can experience the total, unabashed radicool that drenches this funny, smartly designed on-rails shooter. The other emotion? Disgust that it had to come to this. This should be a collector's item that's impossible to ...read more |
In addition to revealing its latest financial figures, Nintendo has released some interesting facts about its two star performers, the Wii and DS. As revealed in the financials, the Wii has sold over 67 million units since its launch in 2006. Putting that in context, Nintendo reveals that the original Nintendo Entertainment System sold 61.91 units in its lifetime, which now makes the Wii the ...read more |
Look, we get just as tired of seeing Nintendo's remarkably high software sales figures every few months as you do -- that's why, this time around, we're going to do things a little differently. We're just going to add up all the life-to-date totals for the company's biggest titles, and just drop them in one big chunk. Ready? Okay, here we go: 247,780,000. Well, that sure didn't work. Fine, ...read more |

It looks like we'll get to see the next Tony Hawk joint soon enough. The skateboarding legend recently tweeted that he just concluded a meeting with developer Robomodo. Tony Hawk said the project is already "much better than I expected," though we think he may be a bit biased on the matter. He added that details would be available "soon." As for what it is he liked so much, all signs point to ...read more |

At first glance, this iPhone / GBA mod by Goteking seems pretty novel. It has the classic charm of the Game Boy Advance coupled with the technical wizardry of the iPhone. And, as many Joystiq staffers noticed, it handily conjures up hilarious memories of the Nokia n-gage. However, upon realizing that the mod is literally just an iPhone crammed into an empty GBA shell, the cruel joke is ...read more |
It appears that Ubisoft has unceremoniously dated Red Steel 2 for March 23, 2010, according to the publisher's site. Ubisoft mentioned the release window last July and didn't include Red Steel 2 in its recent delay announcements. We've contacted Ubisoft to confirm the date. The Wiire notes that Ubisoft slashed Red Steel 2 sales projections by half -- to 500k expected units sold -- during its ...read more |
