no just normal desktop items ... they have a black box over them

right click the icon go to properties customize change icon then scroll to the left till you see a white space click it and there you go

i had that once with a blue box instead
but i didn't know what to do so i just formatted it and put windows 7 on

actually try this. Right click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab. Under Performance, click Settings. Click the Visual Effects tab. Uncheck everything EXCEPT Smooth edges of screen fonts. Click Apply, Apply, and close.
