Great topic for all the people who are un-sure..
There's just to many posts about it getting patched that almost everyone has believed and gone into Panic from the Propaganda they're reading. Like you said this has happened before I know because it's happened to me before.

Say they're being Ignorant or Irrationnal. I have.
People just log on TTG first thing they see "MOD menu's patched" this is why they believe it as it's the first idea given to them and they're to Irrationnal to consider all the possibilities they'd rather have someone tell them what is true rather than using Brain Cells.
