a first gen doesnt have any volume buttons on the side, all the rest do. the only other difference between all of then is more screen pixils (i think because the newer ones are more clear). the newer ones also are faster. i dont know if you can jailbreak 1st gen though. someone can correct me if they want, i just havent ever seen a jailbreak

Easy, the processor's the difference between 1gen and 2nd gen is minute up to 1gen to 3rd gen

1 gen: no volume buttons and has lots of errors and cannot be updated and only limited apps

2 get: same as above but with volume buttons and limited apps

3rd gen : best for jailbreaking can still be updated

4th gen : all good things as above and is faster< HD , AND has a camera with more apps
