what each light means
FAQ:
few steps necessary to avoid the red ring of death flashing red lights:
1. Placing the Xbox 360 in a proper ventilated area. The console should be kept in adequate ventilated place. There should be adequate space around the fans. Storing it around other electronic equipment should be avoided.
2. A small fan should be used so that cool air is kept blowing across the top of the system. This helps in keeping the console cool and thus avoids the red ring of death.
3. Xbox should not be used when it is sitting on the carpet as it doesnt allow proper ventilation around the box. Thus results in over heating. There is chance of dust and grit to enter the Xbox from the carpet. This result in improper ventilation. Power supply box should also be kept in proper space and shouldnt be surrounded by dust.
4. The fans and vents should be cleaned at least once a week. This helps in reducing accumulation of dust. Vacuum cleaner or wash cloths can be used to clean the vents and fans. Proper ventilation stops the console from getting over heated.
5. The Xbox can be turned upside down which results in making the bottom vents to face upwards. This allows heat to escape more than the other way round and thus results in faster cooling and that too for a longer period.
6. Xbox should be kept out of direct sunlight. You should avoid leaving the Xbox in a hot car or keep it in direct sunlight. All these may overheat the console faster.
7. If you have used your Xbox for a longer period then you should turn it off and let it cool down. Using it for too long is one of the reasons of the console getting over heated. You should try to limit your gaming session to shorter periods; this will result in less frequent heating. The Xbox will get time to cool off and thus you will avoid getting a Ring of Death.
8. When you have finished using your Xbox turn it off and then unplug it from main. You shouldnt leave it on for hours or days like that.
9. You should avoid putting things on the top of the Xbox. Putting things on the top of the console will confine air flow and will avoid heat from escaping. Thus will result in over heating.
how to do it without spending money:
[color=orange][font=Comic Sans MS]1. Restart the system to see if the glitch happens just once.
2. Check all the power cords, jacks, and other cables plugged into the Xbox 360. You may need to remove and re-insert the cables and cords and make sure that they're secure before turning on the Xbox.
3. Try removing the internal hard drive from the Xbox 360 and check to see if you still have an RRoD problem. If the RRoD appears only when the hard drive is inserted and secured to the Xbox 360, you may need to have the hard drive repaired or replaced.
4. Check the power supply for any defects and have it replaced.
5. If the RRoD still appears no matter what you do, you either need to call Microsoft's service hotline or fill out a console repair form from the official websites of Xbox or Microsoft Corporation. Repairing your Xbox on your own does not guarantee the repair or validate your warranty, and you may end up doing more harm than good.
next way , this way you may need to spend 5-10 dollars for the tools.
1. Take xbox box and motherboard apart remove, x clamps, and heatsinks, replace x clamps with new screws and washers, clean up old thermal paste and replace with new, rebuild, heat and allow to reset.
2. Semi xbox x clamp fix or xbox penny fix as its otherwise known rather than removing those pesky x clamps pad them with pennies insulated in electrical tape this prevents the x clamps bending as they get hot, and MIGHT solve your problem.
hope this helped! for the mod or admins if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move it. i worked very hard it took me so long to find all the info! so please don't flame. hope this helped everybody who got it or prevents it!

what each light means
Fourth quadrant goes red means that the machine encountered a hardware failure. An error code is usually displayed on the screen.
First and third quadrant go red means that the machine has overheated, and the cooling systems of the Xbox 360 have been engaged. The error indicators will continue to flash until the machine has sufficiently cooled.
First, third, and fourth quadrant go red is known as the Red Ring of Death, or RRoD. When this happens, your Xbox 360 has encountered a critical hardware error. No error codes are shown on the screen.
All quadrants go red is an indicator that the audio/video output is not connected, or there's a hardware failure with the Xbox power supply.
