Towels?
All you are doing when using towels is detroying the BGAs and making their life much worse.
It overheats the console, and flexes the motherboard even more causing any BGA, primarily the GPU, to break more connections off the mainboard.

If you really wanna repair and spend as little as possible, buy a cheap SMD rework station and some kester 951 flux on eBay. You can get the rework station for <100 shipped and the flux for like $3 shipped
