I. Intro
This is a guide for people who struggle with wager matches, specifically costly ones like High Roller wager matches. This is meant to increase the ratio of wager matches you win to the number of ones you lose. A lot of people think that wager matches in general are completely based on running out into the middle of a map and getting as many kills as you can, repeating this process over and over and over. However, take this from someone who places 1st in 9 out of 10 High Roller wager matches, Top 3 in 99% of wager matches, and has gotten over 400,000 COD points in a few days: It is not always about having natural skill. My guide will teach you some easy things to put into your gameplay that will make it much easier to do well in wager matches.
-----------------------
II. Major Tips
The following are some major tips that will help give you an advantage in winning wager matches. Some of these may be considered cheap to use, but this guide is for #WINNING.
-----Get the host advantage (host advantage is when you are the host of the lobby, which basically means that you have the best connection in the lobby): Press the select button on your controller and change the Search Preferences to Locale Only. This means that you will only attempt to connect to lobbies with hosts nearby, which means less of them. If you get into a lobby with other people in it, leave it until you join a lobby with only yourself. This means that you are the host. Then, wait for 5 others to join in and play the game. This may take a while, but is definitely worth a High Roller win.
-----If you are not completely confident in your skill in the game, try to find a lobby with 2+ people with pretty bad Kill/Death ratios (less than 1).
-----Always try to get people to vote the game type you want to play if you have a mic. I would also suggest leaving if you get a game type that you are bad at. Example: Even if I am the host of a High Roller lobby, I will leave if Sticks and Stones is selected, because it is so easy and it sucks to get tomahawked in the last minute of a match. By using tips like these you can shift the odds in your favor before you even start the match!
-----------------------
III. Sharpshooter
Sharpshooter is my personally favorite wager matches. In my opinion, it takes the most skill because everyone has the same gun. There are a few key ways to play Sharpshooter.
Right when you know the map, figure out which spot on the map you want to hold down. For example, on Firing Range, the upstairs of the wooden building is probably the best to defend. At the start, run to your spot. In the process, you'll probably kill one or two people. From then, the most important thing is building your killstreak. Playing defensive and staying alive are key things to do. Once you have your x2 score at your 4 kill streak, the points will really begin to build up. If you go 10 kills 0 deaths in a game, you will place on top of someone who gets 16 kills because of your x2 score. Hold onto it for as long as possible. If other people start to pass you in score, do not get scared. If you die, repeat this process. Another very important thing is predicting when and where people close to you will spawn, and this will give you easy kills. In the final sharpshooter round, if you still have your x2 score, every kill you get will be worth 400 points now! If you play the match right, you should easily get a top 3 finish in this wager match gametype.
-----------------------
IV. Gun Game
Gun Game is probably the Wager Match that takes the second-most amount of skill. Here is the weapon cycle in Gun Game.
1. Python Speed Reloader
2. Makarov Dual Wield
3. SPAS 12
4. Stakeout
5. MP5K
6. Skorpion Dual Wield
7. AK74u
8. M14
9. M16
10. Famas
11. AUG
12. HK21
13. M60
14. L96A1
15. WA2000
16. Grim Reaper
17. M72 LAW
18. China Lake
19. Crossbow Explosive Tip
20. Ballistic Knife
Right of the start in Gun Game, you have a Python. The first 4 guns are for very close quarters so try to get a few quick kills with those. After getting a kill with each one, your red dot will be seen on the enemies' minimap, so expect a few people close by. Guns 5-11 should be also very easy to get kills with. If you can be the first to gun 5, it will be easy to quickly get to gun 11 with other people using the early, close-quarters ones. For guns 12-15, stay on the outer part of the map looking toward the center. This works especially well for the snipers. Ue the same strategy for 16-18, because you move very slowly. When you are on the crossbow and ballistic knife, you can move around more. Try to lead your shots or get behind enemies for easy kills. I can usually get through both of these guns in less than 30 seconds with these tactics.
-----------------------
V. One in the Chamber
A lot of people play one in the chamber very defensively, but this is not how its done.
For one in the chamber, the host advantage mentioned in the beginning is very useful because your bullets will connect better, which makes all the difference when you only have one.
Right off the bat, RUN AROUND. Keep moving, but try to focus on one side of the map and stay out of the middle. Keeping moving will make you harder to shoot, because if someone catches you camping in a corner from a different angle you are screwed. Every now and then you will get a survivor bonus for staying alive. Try to gather up at least 2 of these. After you have a few kills, people are going to catch on to how you play, this is when you can start playing more defensively, when there are only a few people alive, the other people will camp, and you do not want a BS death. This means to move around the map slowly, and check your corners to avoid deaths. One in the Chamber experience can help a lot, so try playing a few Weekend Gambler matches of it with these tactics to change them a little to fit your playstyle.
-----------------------
VI. Sticks and Stones
Sticks and Stones can be based on luck a lot because of the bankruptcy tomahawking system, so I try to avoid it.
Sticks and Stones is played basically the same throughout. First off on every spawn, fire off your crossbows. The bolts are larger than ballistic knives, so it is easier to hit targets. However, the ballistic knives are also a good option. Try to shoot off a knife before going for a melee for extra points. To avoid someone who you think is going to tomahawk you, do different patterns of jumping and going prone. When going in for a knife, do not run straight, this makes you an easy target - ESPECIALLY FOR TOMAHAWKS.
I will try to update this guide as better tactics are found.
