The shaft looks like its useable so maybe the rod powers the shaft somehow?

I was just thinking about it and I was thinking since you get the rock in this one from the easter egg, and there was a leak to another map pack that, You will need the golden rod and rock on the fourth map maybe? Seems plausible to me. Just speculation though.
