Alright I have an Xbox just sitting on my dresser that I haven't touched for 2 years. Should I JTAG it or have it flashed? It is a Xenon model and I heard they have overheating problems so I'm a little skeptical about it. Also if I were to flash it could I still use an external hard drive to store games? I heard you can use usbs but I would rather just use one external hard drive. I'm leaning more towards just flashing it because it would be cheaper and I know someone locally who can do it for me.

It depends on the dash of the xenon but its most likely jtaggable if its been sitting for 2 years.

I haven't used the Xbox around the time Gears of War 2 came out which is November 2008. My friend said he is pretty sure it isn't JTAGable.

Turn on the xbox and hook it up to the tv and go to system settings then scroll down to I think its console settings and look to right and it should say what dash if its jtaggable then its under a 7371 dash or under but if its higher its not jtaggable.

I was able to find the power brick and I tested it. It is like 6717 so it is good for JTaging but I just found out the console has problems. It keeps freezing on start up. I got lucky one time and it let me get to the system settings before it froze. I was messing with it a bit and then it started RRODing on me. Every one of the lights except for the bottom right lit up.
I have to look up what that actually means but do you guys think it may be dust related? It has collected dust over the time it was out of commission. It worked perfectly except for the fact that it scratched my discs. I also noticed it worked for a longer amount of time when I blew into the holes.

That's a Pre NXE dash I think which means its jtaggable and just try opening up the console and clean it very good and try it.
