There is a way to do cata, just go to one of the websites. I prefer WotLK tho.

Depends what servers you go on really for all the gear.... some are like instant 80 with everything. but some you have to raid or pvp for better gear. AND most cata servers these days are buggy as hell and hardly anything works like it should do... id stay on WOTLK for now until they get ALOT less buggy.

As the other guy said it depends on which server you join. There are also level 255 servers and what not. Read the info on the websites.
