What is Halo Combat Evolved?

'Created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a spectacularly re-mastered version of the original Halo campaign.

Bundled with seven of the most popular multiplayer maps in Halo history ready for Xbox LIVE, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will include a bounty of new features including cooperative play over Xbox LIVE, achievements, new challenges, and new fiction to uncover.'

'During the Microsoft press conference at the 2011 E3 Expo, it was revealed that Halo: Combat Evolved will be remade by 343 Industries, Saber Interactive, and Certain Affinity with in-house game engine and released for the Xbox 360 on November 15, 2011. The campaign contains the ability to toggle between old and new graphics. The remake will also include achievements. The release date marks the 10th anniversary of the original game's release.[7] The remastered version of the original game will include online multiplayer and cooperative play functionality.[104] It was also confirmed that the remake will feature Kinect support, making it the first Halo game to include Kinect support'

Basically Halo Combat evolved Anniversary is a remake of the game that brought Halo the game to the Game Table. It changed the way players played videogames and brought you into an entire new world of gaming that no one had yet scene. It paved the way for one of the most successful games on the market. At E3 2011 it was announced that they would be remaking the game. Well not remaking it, but making it more modern and able for the Xbox 360. The game was fully redesigned with better graphics, better gameplay, but with the same old feel of Halo Combat. The game will be released this November, and will feature all the old MP maps from the oringinal game, including the same amazing campaign.

'Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (also referred to as Halo: Anniversary, or Halo: CEA) is a first-person shooter video game set in the Halo Universe and is a remake of 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo: CEA was announced at Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference, along with Halo 4.

343 Industries, in collaboration with Saber Interactive, plan on releasing Halo: CEA on November 15, 2011 - the 10th anniversary of the original title's launch. The game will feature 7[Notes 2] classic multiplayer maps, support for Xbox Live multiplayer matchmaking, a complete visual overhaul, achievements, terminals, other hidden easter egg goodies, and the ability to play Co-op campaign over Xbox Live.[1] The campaign will run on the original engine, whereas multiplayer will be powered by the Reach engine.[2] Unlike Halo 3: ODST , Halo: Anniversary will ship on one disc'

Campaign Gameplay

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's campaign will be the same story as Halo: Combat Evolved, with the addition of achievements, terminals, and online Co-op. It will also have a new feature: when the player presses the back button on the Xbox 360 controller, the game will switch from the updated graphics engine to the original, and vice-versa.

Campaign Story

Halo's storyline is linear. There is only one ending. It is presented to the player through an instruction manual, scripted events and conversations during the game, and a number of cut-scenes rendered using the game's graphics engine. This method of storyline delivery is common among modern video games. The Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved allows one player to play the campaign alone, as well as allow two players to play through the campaign in split screen. The PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved allows only one player to play through the campaign.

Summary

The UNSC Pillar of Autumn emerges out of Slipspace to find a huge ring a "halo" floating in space. The main character, Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, is aboard the Pillar of Autumn when the ship comes under attack by the Covenant, an alliance of aliens and the arch-enemy of humanity. John-117 evacuates the doomed ship for the surface of Halo to protect the Autumn's artificial intelligence, Cortana. She carries highly sensitive military information, which would prove disastrous if she were captured by the Covenant. With the UNSC Marines by his side, Cortana providing direction, and his assault rifle ready and loaded, the Master Chief sets to finding out the mysteries of Halo and defeating the Covenant.

Complete Plot
The first few levels of the game deal with an attempt to reach Halo's Control Center to uncover its purpose. It is soon discovered that during an attempt to take control of a research facility, both human and Covenant forces have accidentally released something: The Flood, as a result of the battle. The Flood is a parasitic race which received their name because of the way they swarm over all resistance. Free for the first time in thousands of years, the Flood sweeps across Halo, devastating Human and Covenant forces alike. The release of the Flood prompts 343 Guilty Spark, the eccentric Forerunner artificial intelligence, to activate Halo's defense systems. Most obvious among these are the Sentinels, flying robots equipped with beam projectors, but Halo's most powerful weapon is much more subtle and far more dangerous. Halo can fire a pulse that will wipe out all sentient life in the galaxy. As sentient life is the Flood's food, the Flood will not be able to survive, and will therefore perish. Technically the Installation only has a maximum effective radius of 25,000 light years, but the pulse would trigger other installations as well. This system is designed to stop the Flood from spreading through the universe if they escape confinement from Halo, by starving the Flood of any life source large enough to sustain them. This is the only possible solution to the destructive parasite.

Naturally, this would wipe out Humanity as well as the Covenant, and so the final levels of the game revolve around the Chief's attempt to destroy Halo before it fires.

The game leaves the story open to further developments, with the revelation that there are several Halo ring worlds in the galaxy, due to Halo being numbered Installation 04 by 343 Guilty Spark, the Monitor of the Installation. It is revealed later in Halo 2 that there were seven Halos before Installation 04's destruction.
The events which transpire in Halo's gameplay must be understood in the context of its backstory, created by Bungie and elaborated in several novels written after the release of the game. Noteworthy is its use of the oft-used battle between monoculture radicalism and free culturalism. Also present, although less pronounced, is the likewise popular theme of blind religion (Covenant) versus free-thought secularism (UNSC). A summary of this back story is presented below.

Multiplayer

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will support cooperative campaign and competitive multiplayer modes. The campaign mode will use a remastered version of the original Halo: Combat Evolved-engine. The multiplayer mode will use the Halo: Reach engine.

There have only been 3 announced maps so far;

Hang Em High
Damnation
Battle Creek

Firefight

Firefight one of the gametypes that shaped Halo is yes in fact coming back. Not much has been released, but in fact that it is announced. There have been rumors it will feature new enemies, and have the old flood.

Quote from Co optimus
'Here's a bit of awesome information that Microsoft just confirmed to us - Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will include the popular four player co-op Firefight mode found in Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. As the anniversary edition is rumored to be built on the Reach engine, we imagine that Firefight will be fairly similar to it with all of the customization options.

The game will also feature two player split-screen play for Firefight and the Campaign alongside the online support for both co-op modes. Suddenly your $39.99 just went a whole lot further.'

Well it's hard to develop something for a newer console that was originally made for a very old console.
