Well this is sort of a more of a clear up thread.

This will help you tell what type of infection you have rather then referring to it as a virus (Yes i did write this all out)

MALWARE! = Malware is a piece of data that is designed to infiltrate someones computer without the owner knowing and to execute and steal precious data or cause damage
Malware are such things as Trojans or keyloggers

ADWARE! = Adware is a item which automatically downloads advertisement to your computer or a software package which it plans to play.

COOKIES! = Cookies are pieces of data that store things like online passwords for forums and sites for you Yet althought some websites attach a cookie to your computer to say youve been to that site which is why you need to clear your cache to stop the cookies lagging up your internet

PORNWARE! = Pornware is often caught watching porn (so stop looking on redtube!) pornware is like adware but will make your homepage a porn page and randomly redirect you to porn sites.

DIALERS! = A dialer is usually associated with pornware it is where the virus uses your phone jack to call up a expensive phone number then leave you on the line so when you get the internet bill at the end of the month you will be running up the walls

RESIDENT VIRUS! = This is a type of virus that is permenent and dwells within the RAM of a computer it can corrupt files and open and close random files and also rename them

WORMS! = a worm is sort of like malware but it can duplicate itself and move from file to file they can cause alot of damage but most up to date antivirus systems will infact detect it.

LOGIC BOMBER! = Although these are rarely used know a logic bomber is not classed as a program itself but part of a program it is a set of instructions inserted in to a program that waits then executes itself (Detonates or explodes) it can cause deadly effects such as corrupting data, printing off weird messages or deleting files

COMPANION VIRUSES! = A companion virus is a a virus that waits within the memory untill a certain time to strike like when your av is disabled while it is waiting it will normally download other dangerous viruses such as trojans or worms to accompany it.

FAT VIRUSES! = This virus uses the FAT of a disk which is used to connect vital information to a computer so the virus on the disk then infects the computer this can result in files missing or registry errors.

FILE INFECTORS! = as it is said in the name file infectors infects a program or file with either a .exe or .com extension when the program is ran the virus is activated doing the damage instantly so becarefull what programs you are opening the majority of todays viruses are file infectors.

POLYMORPHIC VIRUSES! = These are types of viruses that code or encypt themselves so it is hard for todays antivirus systems to detect them they change wherever they hide from computer to computer making it harder for antivirus systems to detect them they can be dangerous since you dont know they are there.

DIRECT ACTION VIRUSES! = This virus only executes itself when a certain condition is met a example of this was the conficker virus which had a timer to it and was not activated till a certain time the virus will go in to a certain file or directory and wait till the condition is met it will also infect the other files in that directory or file they usually wait on a certain .bat (batch file) to move or activate itself.

OVERWRITE VIRUSES! = A overwrite virus is a certain virus that overwrites a file with its own coding so when you go to run a program you may use every day it then activates and causes damage to your computer it can also render some files completely useless and corrupt.

BOOT VIRUS! = A boot virus infects a part of a floppy disk, memory stick or hard drive it infects a crucial part of the boot drive so that it may render the computer unable to start up.

MACRO VIRUS! = A macro virus is created using a specific macro program these mini programs make it possible that they can exectute several items at once therefore saving time and doing damage alot of damage in little time.

DIRECTORY VIRUS! = This virus changes the path of a certain file that runs or executes it can cause the program to run faulty and corrupt like the file infectors it infects files with the extension either .exe or .com once the virus has moved the file to another place it is near impossible to try and relocate this file.
