Hello TTG...
I have an odd issue w/ my box, that was wondering if anyone had any solutions for. It's not too hindering of a problem, but one I would like to find some info on.
On my JTAG, I have a M$ 250GB HDD that I have my profiles, game saves, and other system items stored. I use an external HDD to store all my games. I am using a Seagate FreeAgent Flex Go Desktop drive. My dumba** thought it would be a good idea to buy an externally powered HDD. I think this is where my problem lies...
The drive is formatted correctly (FAT32), and have formatted it different ways. I use a Mac, and had originally formatted it w/ Disk Utility, but thought maybe that was my problem. I then loaded up BootCamp and formatted it w/in Windows. Either way, the problem is still occuring.
Here's whats happening...when the HDD is plugged in (have tried it in all 3 ports), the box will hang on the initial boot. It will eventually load (after about 5 minutes, I've tested it), but it will get hung on the Xbox slash screen. Now, If I turn the box off, the very next startup, it will boot completly fine. So every other boot will hang.
I have tried using Dashlaunch and set the box to boot into different options (NXE, XEXMenu, FSD) and the problem still occurs. If I remove the external drive...the box boots up w/o a single problem.
I'm thinking this is because my external HDD is AC powered instead of USB powered. Before I go out and buy another HDD, I want to see if anyone else has some insight, or possibly similar issues. This happens when the drive is basically empty...and also happens when it's basically full (2.5TB and have over 200 games installed).
Any tips/suggestions? Am I just going to have to bite the bullet and get a new external drive to see if it'll eleviate the problem?
Thanks in advance.

General_Jtagger wrote Thats odd.
I have a external 1tb and it works fine.
The problem may be a bad flash, not the external which has nothing to do with the boot unless you have a updflash on it.
it may be the retail as well remove it when its frozen(sounds crazy but it will do a hard restart and put it back in might fix it) Pretty sure bad flash though, do a clean flash(no dashlaunch nand patchs etc)
Thanks for your reply...
Yea nothing is stored on the external except for game rips. The launch.ini (or whatever it's called...at work now not looking at it) and any other system files (XeXMenu, FSD, Dashlaunch) are all on the MS drive. I have tried doing a hard restart, but the problem still occurs. It's just so weird that it will only have problems on every other boot. Boot 1: freeze, boot 2: fine, boot 3: freeze, boot 4: fine, etc. etc.
The problem happened before I installed Dashlaunch as well. I had installed it, hoping it would fix the problem.
It could be a bad flash...but the issue is the box has NO PROBLEMS whatsoever when the external drive is not plugged in. I can boot all day long w/o it hanging if the drive isn't plugged in. No issues, no hangups.
I'm still on 12625, so I guess this would be a good of time as any to go ahead and try to reflash and test that. Might as well...nothing else seems to be working.
Thanks agian, + rep

That's my thinking too...need something USB powered. I was just hoping someone else had experience w/ it before I went out and bought another external drive.
And actually...it's quite easy to go over 1000GB. I have

Im not 100% sure on this but,
Do you have fsd installed, and have you edited the launch.ini to boot it from startup?
If this is the case I think that fsd is trying to boot but can't find the files?
could be wrong but with a problem like this(as you know) its a matter of trial and error.

Thanks for the reply.
I originally did not have FSD installed. I installed FSD to see if that would help fix the problem. I have edited the launch.ini in about every way possible to attempt a fix...still a no go
Still going to try a reflash this weekend when I have some spare time and see if that helps.
Thanks again for the replies.
