Hey everyone, and welcome to my minecraft mega thread, this will contain how to do just about everything on minecraft, and its all at your fingertips.
Lets start off by teaching you how to survive the first few nights.
Step 1: Gathering wood.
Gather some wood, you will be told why in the next step.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 2: Making wooden planks.
To make wooden planks, its fairly simple, just put a raw log of any kind into the crafting space, then you will have the option to get 4 wooden planks for every log.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 3: Making a workbench.
To make a work bench, put the 4 wooden planks you crafted during step 2 into the crafting spaces, and you will be presented with this crafting option.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 4: Tools.
To make basic wooden tools, there are 2 steps you need to do in order to craft them, the first step is turning 2 wooden planks into 4 sticks, the sticks will be acting as the tool's handle.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
After you have some wooden sticks to use, this is how you make all the different tools.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Wooden pickaxe.

Wooden axe.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Wooden spade.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Wooden rake thing. (The real name is cencorsed).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Finally, a wooden sword.
Step 5: Resources.
There are a range of resources you can use early on in the game, mainly to construct your survival place. Some resources obtainable and effective for making a house are dirt, cobblestone, wooden planks and sandstone. (Its doesn't matter what material, this is only your first home).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 6: Building a house.
Remember, your not trying to amaze anyone with this construction, your just trying to survive. All that you need for your first home is space, something like this will be fine to spend the night in, along as its enclosed.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
And to get in and out, you will need to make a wooden door like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 7: Coal and charcoal.
By now hopefully its dawn, and a whole new day in minecraft. First things first you will need a make a pickaxe, and go hunting for some coal. (Ive already shown how to make a pickaxe). With your pickaxe in hand there are two ways to search for coal, above ground and underground.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
(Coal in the side of a hill).
But dont worry, if worst comes to worse and you cant get any coal, you should get some cobblestone and you can always make charcoal, you make charcoal by burning a raw log in the furnace, at this point during the game you can use sticks or planks to power a furnace.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This is how to craft a furnace.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This is a log in a furnace powered by a plank.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Huzzah! The finished product.
Step 8. Keeping away mobs.
To effectively stop mobs from spawning in your area, you will need to craft some torches. Torches are the earliest light source you can possible obtain without cheating, therefor you should use them wisely. To create some torches, put some coal or charcoal in a crafting space at the top, then a stick directly underneath it, like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Well done, your first effective method at keeping the bad guys at bay! Here are some fine torches lighting up a little house.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 9. Healing.
To heal, you need to eat food, this can be done by having some in your inventory and right clicking it. The most common types of food early in the game are pork chops since pigs are just about everywhere. You can also cook these to make cooked pork chops. (These heal more than raw). To cook pork chops you simply use a furnace, the same way you make charcoal that is shown above. (Raw on the left, cooked on the right).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 10. Storage
To store your items, you have to make a chest. Chests are simple to make, but very very helpful in saving your good items. to make a chest simply fill the crafting table with wooden planks except the middle slot, like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
To interact and store you items within a chest, simply right click on it and the contents of the chest will appear, and look like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Also, you can place 2 chests next to each other to create a double chest for even more storage space. You can then right click any of the chests and you will see this. (Twice the amount of space as a single chest).

Congratulations, your now ready for the big wide world of minecraft with all your newly learned skills, good luck young one.
Now you have learned the basics, you can advance onto crafting. There are countless crafting recipes for you to try out and experiment with. But some are more complex than others, im not going to include pictures of every single crafting recipe because the thread would be gigantic, but ill let you figure them out for yourself, or you could just use the minecraft wiki. Although, there are some crafting items that will take a long time to obtain if you do not know what you are doing. Here are the ways to obtain some rare items. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Diamond: The best place to search for diamond is at depth, at around layer 8 is the most common place for diamond, but in these treacherous depths lie foul creatures, that can only spawn this far down known as slime's, avoid them at all costs.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Redstone: Redstone is a magical powder than is user to power other items that are crafted, same as diamond, this item can only be found at great depths. But unlike other ores is has a quality to give off a small light and red particals.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Gold: Gold is another precious ore found in the depths of minecraft, and is useful for many things such as clocks, clocks can be used to tell the time if your underground or trapped somewhere without sunlight.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Now you have knowledge about rare items within minecraft, its time to move onto something a little more...dangerous.
Dungeons: Dungeons are randomly generated part of the map, and they are very dangerous and only should they be attempted to be neutralized by a experienced player. These dungeons contain the unique monster spawners, either skeleton, zombie or spiders, thankfully not creepers. Dungeons also contain chests, than can contain items only obtainable from there, such as cocoa beans or a saddle. (Saddles are used to ride pigs and cocoa beans are used to make cookies along with wheat). The walls of dungeons are laced with mossy and regular cobblestone, so you should know if you find one, but anyway here's a little picture for you of a dungeon.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Portals: Portals arent dangerous what so ever, but what lies behind one is beyond your worst nightmare. Portals are constructed with obsidian, but to mine obsidian you need a diamond pickaxe. The portal needs to be built to the right measurements in order to work. The way to build a portal is to have 4 obsidian along the top, then 3 obsidian going down each end of the top obsidian, then along the bottom have another 4 obsidian, so there should be 6 spaces in the middle of the portal, like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Or if you in a shortage of obsidian, you can leave out the four corners so the frame will then look like this.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
To then get the portal to function, take a flint and tinder and right click any of the inside blocks of the portal, it will then spring into active producing a purple layer and a particle effect.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Now were done with portals, lets more onto the most dangerous part of minecraft.
The nether: The nether should never be accessed unless you have the right equipment for it (a good set of Armour, decent amount of food at least a diamond sword). The nether holds 2 unique creatures, zombie pigmen and ghasts. Zombie pigmen a half man half pig, and they normally travel around in packs. Ghasts are big flying mobs than shoot explosive fireballs at its target, and damage the envoiroment, often causing alot of fire aswell.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The blocks that are in the nether are rare, and have special abilities too. The first rare type of block is called glowstone, it emits a bright glowing light just like a torch, but it works underwater aswell.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The second unique type of block from the nether is netherrack, and can continuously burn forever. This item is also referred to as netherrock and blood rock because of the colour of it.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The last unique block is called soul sand, and the special ability of this block is that it slows down whatever walks on it, just like cobwebs do.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Texture packs.
Texture packs are really cool for minecraft, and when installed they can create different looks for minecraft, ranging from different GUI's to different block textures, and are pretty essential if you don't like the regular boring one.
So i bet your thinking you want one of these right? Well here is a simple but effective tutorial of how to add one and change to it.
Step 1. Locate and download a texture pack of your choice, here are a few link to browse on to find one.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (This one has loads to chose from in one thread).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (This is one directly to the minecraft forums).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (On this one you can customize your own).
Step 2. Click the start menu at the bottom left.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This is windows XP
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This is windows 7.
Step 3. Type run in the search bar, then in the window that pops up after click run type %appdata%/.minecraft
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 4. If you have done step 2 correctly, you will see these files, this is all the minecraft files.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
(You may not see all of those folder's, since i have some single player mods installed).
Step 5. Click on texturepacks [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] After you done this, the folder should be empty unless you have done it before.
Step 6. Drag your texture pack that you downloaded from step one into the texturepacks folder, and when your done close it down.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Step 7. Dont worry, this is the last step now. Simply open up minecraft and log in as normal. You wont have noticed any change yet, this is normal. Click on the Mods and Texture Packs icon at the main menu on minecraft. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Now click the texture pack that isnt the default minecraft one, then you should be done!
Sometimes with texture packs you will notice a immediate change, either to the background or the style of writing. There are many type of texture packs, some texture packs allow you to see through blocks to find dungeon's/ore's, and some texture packs show how close you are to braking a block. Have fun with your new texture pack!
How to change your skin.
To change your skin there's only a few steps to do it, which makes it very simple to do, and allows you to express your character.
Step 1. Go to this website, and you can search for whatever type of skin you would like to have. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
