dont buy a pre-owned console because the people in gamestaion might have update unless you can ask i recommend you get a new one and ask them which date was it manufactured
( they wont open a brand new boxed console just to update it )

I got my ps3 from gamestation, pre-owned. And it came on 3.55

I think the short answer to that question is there is just no real way of knowing... and i can't see any retailer cracking open a PS3 for you to find out.... most retailers know about Jailbreaking, it's their job to, so they know what they're looking for when people come in to trade in consoles....and they tend to refuse any consoles that have been tampered with..... a MUCH better option is to look on ebay for one..... alot of PS3s that have Firmware 3.55 or lower or are already jailbroken are descretely advertised as such.... that's where i got mine from.... and so long as you buy from someone with plenty of positive feedback, i can't really see you having any problems with this method....

Just FYI... i've bought two PS3's this way, one phat and one slim, and both were advertised as 3.55 FW....

All major stores are now required to once they have traded in a console too update the consoles to 3.66. This is as anything from 3.55 and below can be used or illegitimate purposes.

Yeah, i bought a ps3 just to JB and host on. It came on 3.55 so go ahead and buy one <3
