How To Root Your Android Device!


First you want to figure out which firmware you are on!

If you don't know how to do this then look it up on Google ^_^

If you are on 2.2 use Method 1 or 2!
If you are on 2.3 or on a Acer Iconia A500 use Method 3!
If you are on an HTC phone use Method 4!


Method 1:
Super One Click! This is one of the most well known methods of rooting!

Step 1:
First you want to install your phone drivers. If you are on a samsung device then go to [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
If you are on an HTC device then go [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
If your phone is something different your computer should install the drivers automatically when the device is plugged in!
Then you want to put your phone in USB debugging mode And plug in your USB cable!
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card!!!
To go into USB debugging.
Go to settings
Scroll to and click Applications
Click Development
Click the box for Usb Debugging


Step 2:
Download the program [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] And open it up
Make sure your phone is plugged in!


Step 3:
Click root it will go through the ADB process and root it!
Once its rooted your done!!!

Method 2!
z4Root! This is a old application made by RyanZA on the xda forums.

Step 1:
Download the application on your phone
Download the .APK [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]


Step 2:
Start it up and click root then Permanent root. Then once your phone reboots your done!


Method 3!
GingerBreak! This is the most recent method of rooting on your android device! This methd of rooting is the same as the z4Root method.


Step 1:
Download the application [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Make sure USB debugging is on also!


Step 2:
Open up the application and click root! It will reboot. Then your done!



Method 4:
Unrevoked!!!! This method is for some HTC devices. NOT COMPATIBLE WITH EVO 4G with 2.3.3 Update!


Step 1:
Go to [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and choose your phone from the devices that are available to root and install the program.


Step 2:
Plug in your phone but make sure USB debugging is on and you also have installed HTC sync.


Step 3:
Once HTC sync is installed and you open it up to install the drivers for yor device close it and uninstall it!


Step 4:
Installing the HBOOT drivers
Download the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and expand it somewhere you will remember.
Turn off your phone, then boot it into the HBOOT menu by holding power and volume down.
On EVO 4G, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an SD Checking message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses.
Connect the phone to your Windows machine with a USB cable and wait for the phone to say HBOOT USB PLUG on screen.
Open Device Manager.
Click Start, then right click on Computer, then click Properties, then click Device Manager.
Under Other devices, you should now see the Android 1.0 device, similar to the picture below.


Step 5:
Reboot your phone and let it load up like normal.
Connect your phone using the charge only option.


Step 6:
Run the unrevoked file you downloaded and wait for it to finish

It allows you to use a non-stock recovery to flash different ROMs (essentially new operating systems), kernels (which add features and CPU speed options), mods (some ar flashable, some are not. XDA is the best source for mods), and use apps that require the superuser function.
