So me and my gf decided we want to get a desktop pc for my house, cool right? So, I instantly thought to myself "wow great opportunity to get me a gaming pc!" So my question is What would be a good gaming pc be??? I am not a computer person so dont really know what all is out there. I am assuming building a pc would be the cheapest way, but I have never built one before. Im not calling different companys asking what is the best because they will be completly biased, so in turn I am asking here . I dont really need to have a pc that will travel through time, just one I can play games on with no lag. Anyone wanna be helpfull and point me in the right direction?

All prebuilt gaming PCs are way overpriced. Building a PC is really easy in my opinion. You got the Motherboard, RAM, CPU, GPU, PSU, Case, HDD, CD Drive. All in all a good gaming PC will run you around $850. If you have the store Fry's near you they will know everything. They have a variety of parts at a good price. You can always go on tigerdirect or newegg to get parts as well.

i would recommend going with an intel system. with the intel system you should get:
intel core i5 2500k processor
p67 or x58 motherboard
hyper 212+ cpu cooler
amd radeon 6970
120gb SSD
and a high quality power supply unit (PSU)
the SSD isnt necessary, and is expensive, but when you install your OS on it, it speeds everything up.
with this setup you will be able to play most games on max settings, but you will still need to get a case, ram, HDD, optical drive, peripherals, etc. with the setup, it might be going over your budget.

I dont think it would be hard to build one either. I just dont know what parts are compatible with others. I would like to get one done for 1500 or less not including monitor, keyboard, mouse, ect. Would like to run it on a 30" -ish monitor if that matters at all.

a good way to get help is to go onto new eggs forums and go to the system builds section then ask them to create a list of compatible parts that are the best value for you budget. i have been on their site plenty of time and the people are always ready and willing to help and they like 90% of the time will give you a perfect list.
