ATI Radeon HD 5770. = more or less 700£

Ofcourse you would want Windows 7 = 800£

Just tell you'r dad that you need those extra 200£

[b]Always remember that you should not choose nVidia if you are going single card. ATI 5770 up to 5970 is good as single. nVidia have quad SLI for GTX480 (4 GTX480 = OVERKILL)

If you can, you should have a 5970 quad. That is the best you can get. But the pricing. That is another story. Quad 5970 is for those who drives Bentleys and have a own jet plane.

what? lol

5970 is a terrible card, it has internal cf.... also Nvidia cards will out preform Nvidia. Only good Nvidia cards that would give the same preformance as nvidia's 470 / 480 would be the ATI Radeon 5850 / ATI Radeon 5870. Video cards are chosen based on your res you be gaming at, or your native resolution. It also depends on what games you are playing, games that require more Vram than others (eg Grand Theft Auto 4 uses 2GB of Vram so you want a card with more Vram.)

I would not recommend any AMD processor to anyone, but with your budget, its the best option. But as i said earlier, If you want to play games with max settings you have to be willing to spend atleast $1,000. And if you want to play games such as Crysis on high settings (not possible to max out settins with AA etc) you have to be willing to spend 3-$4,000

Anything with internal cf is terrible, your prone to much more bugs than any other card out there. Also it doesn't preform that good

Doesn't perform that good? Compared to what?

The 5970 is basically two 5870's clocked at 5850 speeds, and the fact that both GPU's are on the same PCB would minimize issues found with standard crossfire set-ups.

Wasn't the 5970 the fastest card on the planet a few weeks ago?

LOL, and thats not true, i play crysis warhead 1920x1080 with no AA will all settings on very high and i get a constant 20-25 FPS, thats with the Nvidia GTS 250 a $150 card. You can get a basic motherboard with an AMD 5600+ and 2 gigs of ram for $150. All he needs is a hard drive and a nice case

This is a great build for the money, but it's slightly over budget

If you really can't stretch your budget to an extra £40, let me know and I will cut corners where possible
