It could be someones old gamertag and i dont think thats allowed

It's because it's most likely just a silver account.
It happened to me too.

It could be taken because of someone on Zune.

it used to be someones but they changed it.

Call Xbox about it. Other wise you are out of luck dude.

Or it's because the account got banned. That's most likely why. xP

When I tryed to change my GT, I got to where I could and "Backout" to the dashboard and got off, my friend tryed to see if it was taken the next morning (I had to do somethinng and couldnt get on till later) And it said it was taken but when he tryed to send him a amessage, it wasnt taken.

the xbox live gamertag system can sometimes be glitchy.

sometimes you need to type the gamertags in case sensitive letters to see if it is made or not.

there is also another glitch where you can make it seem like it is going to change but it just gives you an error code because the gamertag actually exists.

Hey I Had the same problem to the GT Jolteon isnt taken supposedly but i called microsoft and they actually gave me a reasonable answer.. They answered..... "Just Because the account says it isnt taken doesnt mean it isnt. it can be used on games for windows or another microsoft associate gaming source may be using that name for a gaming source."
