Can anyone suggest a good virus scanner so i can eliminate that possibility

I would scan your computer with a antivirus.
Then try ccleaner and get rid of all you unwanted programs.

If that doesn't work try a reset to before that started happening?

Ive got Hitman pro going now.

The programs that are on here are all needed and dont take up 70gb.

what antivirus. i would like more than one thing scanning it,

Kaspersky has scanned it. Hitman Pro is doing it now.
