Fill the 3-gallon container with oil and pour it into the 5-gallon container. Then fill the 3-gallon container again and use it to fill the 5-gallon container the rest of the way. One gallon will be left in the 3-gallon container

The answer is 5 socks.

There are only 4 different colored socks, so you could only grab a maximum of 4 socks before you would double up on colors. If you wanted to guarantee you had 2 of the same colored sock then you would need to grab 5 socks.
