I remember soft modding the original xbox and modding Halo 2 and it was widely known that the second you played a matchmaking match with mods on Halo 2 you would get banned within 24 hours from the game servers, you could still play custom games and you could play any other game online but you couldnt play halo 2 matchmaking on that account anymore.

I feel like that would be a much more successful banning process, i know this post is asking about if they can mod. But if they used this modding would be depleted.
