*Update*
Engine Enhancements and New Screenshots
Enhancements to the engine as well as 14 new screenshots.
It's been awhile since we've had any solid new information on Black Ops and that's still set to continue, but surely some new screenshots and information on the engine changes will wet our appetite?
A new blog » on the official Black Ops website has slightly touched on the new engine that will be used in Black Ops and what changes have been made. The engine that is used in Black Ops is a modified version of the World at War engine.
With each new game comes more demands that have to be met, this means that the engine has to be changed in order to meet these demands. The team at Treyarch want Black Ops to have "incredible photo-realistic lighting, huge draw distances, explosive destruction and effects, and mind-blowing character details" so it was important that they completely re-tooled the lighting system.
They also had to integrate texture streaming to make the "Payback" level and many more levels possible, texture streaming was also added to Modern Warfare 2 in order to make the levels much more detailed. With Treyarch making all these changes, it also allowed their artists to use the tools and platform they need to create extremely detailed stunning characters.
But it doesn't just stop there. Treyarch also made massive changes to the physics, jungle, water and fire technology but that's just a few of many. It certainly sounds like a lot of massive changes have been made to give us the best experience possible come 9th November, despite the odd "the engine is a small modified version of WaW's engine" comment.
New Screenshots
But that's not all we have for you today. Treyarch also released 14 new HD images that you can look at below. Some of the images you might have seen before but this is the first time that they've officially featured on the official Black Ops website in the best quality possible.
Here They are:
