So there seems to be some confusion around what a beta is. That is why I am posting this in order to clear it up .
Give it a good read
When a new game is created or updated, there are several stages in development before the product can be sold in the commercial marketplace. You might remember our Alpha Trial from July which was the first stage, in which the game is tested by software testers and gamers. A beta version is the name for the second stage of software testing.
The beta version of a software release is considered to be a preview. It has most of the standard features, but is not yet ready for wide release or sale. During this point, the studio will collect feedback from users about the product's usability what they like and what should be changed before the games wide release. A beta version of a game can be either a closed beta, which is limited to a specific group of users, or an open beta, which is available for the general public to use.
Today, most games are first released in beta version for testing.

Which is why they have closed betas. Open betas are mostly for increasing sales, simple as that. While finding bugs on the side.
Shit even the Call of Duty world at war open beta barely had all the bugs BF3 beta hass. The only major one i remember is falling through the ground, but to do so you have to like jump 10000 times, spin a circle 200 times, prex A XY BA XY BBBB YA X, then you fall through. Not like BF3 where you go prone and just fall through. How did the closed beta testers not find this?
Not only did the WaW beta fix some issues, it also without doubt increased game sales. Most people werent even going to buy it because it went back to World War 2, but after the beta they changed their mind.
Know why CLiffy B didnt have a beta for GOW2? Because it takes away from sales.

Games that have demos or betas instead of just trailers seem to take a hit in sales. I think if the demo/beta is anything short of amazing it may work against the game.

This is EXACTLY why MW2, Black Ops, and MW3 won't have a beta. MW1 and WaW had one to increase publicity, get more preoders, and fix bugs. Now they just have a closed beta. They dont want people like him who may not like MW3 to cancel their preorder because of an open beta.
Sounds like dirty marketing, but thats how it works.
