First things first, this guide will be completed over a long period of time and I will edit it every time I have a chance.


Primary Gun Selection
Lancer - the lancer is the most commonly used gun, although it has lower damage than the retro lancer this gun is both effective in close quarter combat and long range. The melee attack is also extremely effective, unlike the retro lancer you can chainsaw without having to run and chainsaw an enemy down on the spot.

Hammerburst - the hammerburst is the best weapon for long range, its iron sight makes it possible to bring down targets from distance with accuracy. However this gun is pretty much the nerfed version of the lancer rifle. The gun is rarely used in multiplayer as the lancer easily out specs this gun. The gun also has a low rate of fire and now melee attachment.

Retro Lancer - the retro lancer is a newcomer to the gears of war series, this gun is easily the SMG of the 3 primary weapons with its clear damage advantage over the two other guns. However this gun carries a huge amount of upward kick and is near impossible to pick off enemies long range when full on shooting. The trick to using this gun is to spray in a few bursts of fire to even have a chance at pulling off long distance kills. Although it lacks ability in long range combat this gun is insane at close range, it will tare the enemy to pieces. This gun gives the shotguns a good run for their money. If you are a couple of meters from an enemy who cannot shotgun you with the first shot this gun is sure to pull off the kill.

My opinion - my personal favorite has to be the retro lancer, it is so dominant at close range that it will rip people to shreds. However, this is because I am an extremely aggressive player, I will attempt to run into any situation and kill kill kill. For players who are a less aggressive and will pick people off from mid-long range the lancer is the gun for you, it is certainly the most reliable of the 3 guns to get you kills. This then leaves the hammerburst, I believe that the hammerburst is the least important gun of the 3, the gun can only be used in a long distance situation and will therefore not help at close range combat. The majority of the players will recognize that you are using a hammerburst and simply rush, knowing that you will fall. Although it I personally find it "useless" it can be very successful on spread out maps for example Sandbar or Dry Docks where you can take out enemies from distance.
