You have to make a really, really good post, and hope the mods sticky it.

Sticky is when the thread is up-top all other threads.

i.e. the gaming industry one.

You make a post that everyone can look at for help. Like a massive tutorial/help thread. Something that you take time to make. But most of the time if you make one, it won't become a sticky.
Stickies are the posts with the green check at the top of the page.

a sticky is basically a very important topic pertaining to the forum that's helpful to the community. You get one by having a mod "sticky" it. Not easy to do.

You get a sticky by making a useful, and unique topic. It must get noticed by the staff to get it stickied. Basically what a sticky topic is, is that the staff 'stick' your topic to be at the top of the page always. But remember one thing - don't ever ask for a sticky.
