Is your phone with Verizon or AT&T? The reason I ask is because the firmware 4.2.1 on Verizon is the same as 4.3.4/4.3.5 on AT&T which is, as of right now, only jailbreakable if you use a tethered jailbreak which is very inconvenient.
Let me know what provider you are with and I can try and find a tut for you.

Most fermwares and versions are sept the newst one.
my general rule is dont update it unless its a big jump like 4.5-5.0 kinda thing. then it is more worth it.
but i would just youtube it or google.
