Warning! : Keyboard Needed.

To successfully delete water without deleting your world:

1. Plug in the usb keyboard.
2. Go the the place where you first spawned the water(it has a fountin like structure placed on top of the water block.
3. Hover over the block.
4. Press Delete (Del) on the keyboard.
5. Save and exit the world.
6 Re-Enter the world and your water will be gone.

actually you don't need a keyboard just press LT on the water spawn block then quit and rejoin

it has been there since they added the water block for 1.099
