RocknRoll wrote Good points, but I hate people who think they know everything about dubstep because they listen to 'skrillex'. Don't get me wrong I like his music but it is not dubstep, more of a mix of house and electro with a few wubs here and there. Proper artist are; Datsik, Flux pavillion and rusko, and many more. Jakawob is pretty sick but most of his mix's are just wubs and wobs.

I can pretty much agree, although skrillex does have dubstep songs. But that was my point, he was experimenting, and it changed dubstep.

Yeah he has a few, but not many. So as this has gone too mainstream for my liking I have gone back to listening to DnB (DrumAndBass) and I am sure most will follow by the end of next year... But as you can tell by the name, Rock is where it is at!

Lots of music can be at a certain BPM, as it can have a sort of "drop." This is a common feature throughout all genres, really, not just electronic genres.

The wobbles have very little in common, as well. Totally different.

I'd describe dubstep as "pensive," whereas Skrillex is more "explosive." There's just an entire part of dubstep that is so attractive that artists have not captured. The "soul." It's unfortunate, but they serve very different purposes. One is clearly meant as dance/party music.

Ya dubstep is getting more mainstream now in the states, I used to never here anybody talk about it, but now so many people are. But skrillex is in the mix, I just wish other artists could get the time of day because I know some really good artists out there.

I completely agree that the wobbles are different, I am not denying that at all. Yes skrillex is "explosive" and his music is extremely over played. I like artists like Noisestorm, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, NowhereBoy, Eartrash, Butch Clancy, and many others out there.

I like them too! I just want the genres to be separate. I'm not even THAT into either dubstep or "newstep," it just bugs me that I have to go through and relabel a bunch of music, but don't know what to call it. It needs a name!

Well I think that they should be the same, only because it is an ever changing genre of music, and I've seen it change so much since I started listening to it a couple years ago. At the rate its changing we would need new names just about every couple of years.

I agree. That would make me happy. Look at all the house music sub genres.

Okay, everything you said is fine, but it's just evolution of a genre.

I know you disagree, but I personally like newer dubstep (NOT any of your examples).

Originals aren't always better. Something like a music genre SHOULD encompass a broader style of music. Just like how rap has become worse and worse, along with "Rock".

It's just how it is.

I like the newer dubstep as well, but I perfer to find other artists to listen to other than skrillex because I know that there are some other unknown artists out there who are really good.

My problem is not that it's mainstream. The only reason I like music is because I think it is good and I like it. Rock is definitely where it's at, but I listen to loads of electronic-based genres as well. I'm a drum and bass fan. Like this dubstep identity crisis, though, I wouldn't call Pendulum's newer stuff DnB. They've strayed too far. Again, that doesn't mean I don't like them. It's still good music. I like Noisia more though! I LOVE NOISIA.
