What is jailbreaking?

It is a way by which you can break the barriers that Apple enforces on its devices. The iPhones and the iPads are the devices that often require jailbreaking. Through jailbreaking, people achieve a lot of purposes. They can install and use third-party apps that are not approved by Apple. They can switch carriers easily. They can get deeper into the device to change various features. Through jailbreaking, one can also break several protection and security stuff on the videos, books, digital data and much more which is otherwise unaccessible or copy-protected.

Is jailbreaking illegal or legal?

it IS LEGAL to jailbreak your ipod, BUT if you get instaullous and get free apps/music/movies or whatever it is illegal if you normally buy it

Is jailbreaking safe?

Most likely it is. Your iPhone/iPods springboard might crash once and a while but all you have to do is restart your Idevice and it will be back to normal.

How do I downgrade my iPod/iPhone to where it's jailbreakable?

Download the required IPSW file to which you want to downgrade to

Step 2: Once youve downloaded the required IPSW file, its time you put your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into DFU mode.

Turn your device off.
Hold down the Power button and the Home button at the same time for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds, release the Power button but dont let go of the Home button, your computer should detect a new USB device.

(At this point, your devices screen should be off, if thats so, then youve successfully put your device in DFU mode. If iTunes logo shows up, youre in Recovery Mode, NOT DFU mode.)

Step 3: Here comes the tricky and the most important part, youre going to fool iTunes into thinking that its in contact with Apples servers, whereas were going to change that to Sauriks server. In order to do this, follow the steps given below:

Windows users:

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate the file named as hosts.

Mac users:

Mac users can access the hosts file by navigating to /etc/ folder, which can be found through Go > Go to Folder from within Finder.

If youre on Windows, then open the hosts file in Notepad. If on a Mac, then open the hosts file in TextEdit, and add the following line at the very bottom.

Just save the file and close Notepad or TextEdit, and youre all set for the downgrade.

Step 4: Launch iTunes, choose your device from the left sidebar. Hold down the left Shift key if youre on Windows or hold down the left alt key if youre on a Mac and click on Restore, do not click anything else! A new window will pop up asking you for the location of the IPSW file.

Navigate to the desired firmware to which you want to downgrade to, in this case it can be either iOS 4.3.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.1, 4.3 or 4.2.1. Once you find the required IPSW file, click Open and let iTunes do its thing.

If you see an error screen pop up just ignore it.

How do I get free applications and free music?

To get free applications make sure you have sinfuliphonerepo as a source.
Then in Cydia, go to the search bar and type in install0us 4. Download it.
To get free music I would recommend two things. Go to search again and type in YouTubetomp3 or type in mewseek.

How do I change the way my applications look?

Well what you are talking about is adding a theme to your Idevice. To add a theme you need to go into Cydia and go to the search bar and type in winterboard. Before you click on anything, let it load. Once it's done loading there should be an icon that is a smiley face. Download that one. Then what ever you want your themes to look like, type that in the search bar. (notice that whatever you type in might not be there) once you download a theme, close Cydia and go into winterboard and click select a theme. Your theme should be there and click it. It should be checked. Click the home button then and your Idevice should restart. Once it is done restarting, your Idevice should look different.

I don't like this jailbreak thing, how do I take it off my idevice?

I'm pretty sure that might not happen but if it does some how, all you have to do is restore your Idevice.

What is DFU mode? How can I put my Idevice in DFU mode?

DFU mode is a state that you can put your iPhone into where it can interface with iTunes but does not load the iPhone operating system or boot loader (this is what really differs DFU mode from recovery mode). DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.

How to enter iPhone DFU mode:

Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
