Hey TTG!
Many people are confused about Call of Duty Elite and how it operates with MW3 (which releases 11-8-11 at Midnight). I've decided to set up a thread to answer your questions regarding MW3 and Call of Duty: Elite.
If the following FAQs (frequently asked questions) do not help you with your concerns, feel free to post a question in the comments below! This thread will be updated for the next few weeks.
What is Call of Duty: Elite?
Call of Duty: Elite is a service provided by Activision that works with your Call of Duty games to enhance your gaming experience. It consists primarily of four functions:
Is Call of Duty: Elite free?
Call of Duty: Elite is a free service. Anyone can register to use most of it's functions, including but not limited to stat tracking, competitive leader boards, clan services and basic theater services. If you purchases a Call of Duty: Elite membership for $49.99, you get access to premium services for 1 year.
The benefits of premium can be found in the fact sheet above.
What does it mean to have Call of Duty: Elite Founder Status?
Founder Status is given to anyone who buys the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 OR who activates a Call of Duty: Elite Subscription (which costs $49.99) between November 8th and November 13th of 2011.
Founder Status gives you a few extra perks, including an exclusive weapon camouflage, emblem set, and group access (#founder) as well as allowing you into specific competitive ladders that only founder can access. Those ladders offer valuable prizes and opportunities that won't necessarily be available in the public ladders.

Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have MLG GameBattles-like Competitive play?
Yes!
One of the most exciting features of MW3 + Elite will be the ability to form Clans with friends and play against other Clans in matches for rank. Your Clan will work it's way up a ladder, where they will compete against other clans for potential prizes and in-game rewards.
This function will only be available to players using MW3 in partnership with Call of Duty: Elite, meaning you need to register and link your XBL Gamertag/PSN ID with CoD: Elite to do any of this.
What are CoD: Elite seasons?
A CoD: Elite season is a 9-month period in which all competitive ladders will be tracked. Once a season finished, the competitive ladders will be reset, and new competitions and prizes will be announced. Within these 9-month season, there will be monthly DLC (downloadable content) which will cost money for regular players and basic CoD Elite members. CoD: Elite Premium Members and Founders will have access to the monthly DLC for free during the 12-month duration of their membership.
This means that if you were not going to resubscribe to CoD: Elite premium, you'd get approximately 12 sets of DLC over the course of your membership.
Each monthly DLC set will contain somewhere around 1 and 3, seeing as the first 9 months will include 20 pieces of DLC. (9 installments of 2 content items would be 18, so you take it from there)
It is currently unknown if there will be a break in-between seasons.
Is downloadable content free for basic CoD: Elite Members?
NO! All players and CoD: Elite basic members will be required to pay for DLC as it comes out.
Will there be CoD: Elite Premium-only DLC?
Yes. Current information points out that CoD Elite Premium members will have access to some exclusive DLC that won't be publicly available. This will probably be in the form of Weapon Camouflages and Maps, but most likely will be of minimal importance.
How do I buy CoD: Elite Premium?
There are three confirmed ways to get CoD: Elite Premium:
It is currently unknown whether or not you can purchase premium from Call of Duty: Elite's website, though it is likely that this will be available.
If I got my game early and I play it online early, will I be banned or reset?
Nope! If you have your game right now, you don't need to worry about staying offline. Glen Schofield of Activision stated that though he's unhappy about the game being delivered early, there is no need for a reset, and players will not be punished for getting their copies early.
When registering a CoD Elite account, I got the error message, "Account is not eligible to register for CoD Elite". What does this mean, how can I fix it?
This is a glitch in the system. Expect it to be fixed within a day or two. To fix it yourself now, just to your CoD profile (in the top right corner) and link your Xbox Live gamertag to your CoD Account. Now try to 'Enter Call of Duty Elite'. This will allow you to actually start the membership.
If that doesn't work for you, give yourself a few days, then try again. The system may not have fully updated to allow non-beta users to upgrade to full on Elite yet.

You'll redeem your CoD Elite code from the Hardened Edition via the Xbox Live Dashboard redeem code feature, like you would with some microsoft points.

The system won't be fully operational until tomorrow, according to my conversation last week with Activision support. You'd be better off waiting until tomorrow to activate it, however you probably will get credit for it if you activate it today.
