That scratch is the problem because the laser goes all the ay through the disk and the scratch is bouncing the laser back causing an error.

This is the answer you're looking for. You scratch acts as a million mirrors, when the laser hits this scratch, the laser will be reflected somewhere different on the disc, thus creating a reading error of the disc.

Unfortunately no. The Xbox reads all the data before you can play it off your hard drive.

You can't even get it re-layered because it's on the top of the disc.

Ahh, any idea why it works after a while then? Usually takes 10-15 minutes of opening and closing the tray.

This might sound crazy but it works I fixed my mw3 this way after I scratched it while hotswapping get scratch remover for car headlights it will remove the scratch and make the dsk look new just use a micrfiber cloth to move a little bit of it around
