The notorious hacker group Anonymous is threatening to have the City of Toronto removed from the Internet if they move forward on plans to evict the Occupy Toronto camp.

The brave citizens of Toronto are peaceful and well-mannered occupiers, and we will not let the city, or the mayor that uses vulgar language in public get involved, says a computerized voice in a November 12 video (above) by the group.

You have said by next week the Occupiers shall be removed, and we say by next week you do not change your mind you shall be removed from the Internet. We have already planned for this, so if we see any interruptions we will launch the operation that we have planned for a while.Toronto, expect us, the video continues.

Anonymous has previously stated it would ignore the Occupy Canada movement unless it saw an interruption to the protests. Regardless, spokespeople with the office of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford say they will continue to push ahead with plans to bring the protest to a peaceful conclusion.

Last Thursday, residents and business owners neighbouring the sprawling St. James Park encampment gathered to voice their displeasure about the marijuana and campfire smoke emanating from the park as well as the near-constant sound of drumming.

Last week, Mr. Ford told the protesters that it was time to move on and promised to discuss the issue with Toronto Police chief Bill Blair. Anonymous main weapon is not technically hacking, but rather a tactic known as distributed denial of service. The attacks work by commanding millions of computers (usually unwitting personal computers commandeered by a computer virus) to suddenly flood a website with traffic, overloading the server.
