Although I have personally never used a Mac I hear they are good for video editing and things of that sort. You will want a good amount of ram if you make videos and a fairly large hard drive.

No, just no.
I don't know why people lean towards Mac computers for video/audio editing. They are simply the worst due to the O/S and it shedding holes through your wallet. I can go on and on exposing Mac products, but that's getting old. I'll make it short and sweet.
Here is a MacBook - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Here is a generic Acer notebook - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The MacBook is triple the price. They both have the same specifications besides the i7 on the Macbook. The Windows machine is a lot cheaper and offers the same real world performance. The extra $1,000 is justified by it being an Apple computer. Simple. A $1,000 Zenbook would crush, and I mean crush any CrapBook that was ever made.
Whatever you do, don't go with an Apple. Plus, a lot of the mainstream programs are compatible with PC.

For every con there is for a Mac, there is 5 pros for a Windows machine.

He is probably right. I have never understood why everyone thinks Macs are better for video editing. But having never used one myself I'm not sure. And yes of course macs are ALWAYS overpriced.

They sure are!
OP, I highly suggest giving the Asus Zenbook a shot. It's basically a Windows notebook that has the Apple construction. Thing is, well, for one it's Windows. Second, you're getting a better warranty and better parts for less. Win win outcome, no?

Pretty sleek, huh?
It even includes a flippin 128gb SSD! That's a steal considering an Apple computer with that size of an SSD will cost well over 2 grand.
Here's a video by Linus as well -
