I talked to someone from xbox support a few weeks ago. Because I had this same problem. The gamertag creator doesn't register spaces and capital letters as differences. So someone could not get the same gamertag if they put a random space or capital letter. Sorry if this didn't make much sense.

Yes someone else can but it had to have at least one character different.

So it does have a point, but I could have gotten my answer a different way? I'm sure I would either not get answered at all, and I probably wouldn't get a lengthy answer, because I see some people saying yes and some people saying no.

Of course they know what they are talking about? I even tried it out when I talked to them. Because someone had trancedemon as a gamertag, and I wanted TranceDemon, and it would not register because someone else already had it (aka the guy with trancedemon). I also tried spacing and that failed to work as well.
