yes it has to be, and to do it you goto callofduty.com/elite then go at the top bar and click my account. Then click profile. At the mid bottom of the page you will see link xbox account and it is pretty straight forward from there

everytime i click accept to get in a new clan, it basically just refreshes the page and doesnt accept the invite. help?
