I recetly bought an iphone 3g of a friend but when i go to settings it shows 'no wifi' and its greyed out

i have tried resetting the network settings, restoring the iphone ect.
Can Anyone Help!

Well was your friends iPhone jailbroken? and then you or him updated it through itunes?
If so, then when you updated it through itunes you corrupted your baseband

Turn off airplane mode it should work ...

Yep, turn off airplane mode. It disables WiFi and Bluetooth.
